HISTORY

The Pratesi family has been producing wine in the Carmignano area for five generations. It was Pietro Pratesi who bought the Lolocco estate in 1875 in the heart of Carmignano, where wine and oil were already produced. And in Lolocco the Fabrizio Pratesi winery produces the best wines in high-density planted vineyards.

Carmignano is one of the oldest wines in Italy. In Carmignano wine was produced since the Etruscan era, as evidenced by the discovery of wine vessels inside some Etruscan tombs on Monte Albano.

The first written documentation in which the name of a Carmignano wine appears dates back to 1396; it is a document in which a notary from Carmignano, Ser Lapo Mazzei, communicates to a merchant from Prato, Marco Datini, that he has ordered fifteen quarts of Charmignano wine for his cellar, paying “16 lire the soma”, a price four times superior to that of the wines of the area (which demonstrated its superior qualities).
